For The Anxious Patient

Anxious patients

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide, sometimes referred to as “laughing gas,” is an effective and safe sedation agent for both children and adults. It is inhaled through a mask that fits over the patient's nose. Mixed with oxygen, nitrous oxide allows the patient to breathe normally through their nose, and within minutes they should start to feel the effects. They may feel light-headed or notice a tingling in their arms and legs. Some patients comment that their legs and arms feel heavy. Ultimately, they should feel comfortable and calm. The effects of nitrous oxide wear off quickly after the mask is removed. Talk to the doctor about whether nitrous oxide would be a good option.

General Anesthesia for Pediatric Dental Treatment

At our pediatric dental office, your child's comfort and safety are our top priorities. For young patients who experience severe dental anxiety, have special healthcare needs, or require extensive dental work, general anesthesia can be a safe and effective option.

General anesthesia allows your child to sleep peacefully through the entire procedure, ensuring a stress-free experience and allowing our team to complete necessary dental treatments efficiently in one visit. Administered by a licensed anesthesiologist in a fully monitored setting, this approach is carefully tailored to each child’s individual needs. We offer treatment under general anesthesia in our office or in the hospital setting at Franciscans Children’s Hospital on a case-by-case basis.

We understand that the decision to use general anesthesia can feel overwhelming, which is why we take the time to answer your questions, explain the process thoroughly, and guide you every step of the way. Our goal is to provide high-quality dental care while creating a positive, calm experience for both you and your child.
